PICKAWAY COUNTY, OH — A routine traffic stop nearly turned into a tragedy Friday night after a Pickaway County Sheriff’s Deputy was forced into a high-speed pursuit with an erratic driver.
The incident began around 8:30 PM on Friday, May 8, along State Route 207. A deputy was conducting a standard traffic stop when a passing vehicle reportedly veered dangerously close to the scene. According to the deputy, the vehicle nearly struck him, his cruiser, and the individual he had pulled over.
The Pursuit
Fearing for public safety, the deputy immediately cut the initial traffic stop short to give chase. The driver, later identified as 65-year-old Tracy Brill, reportedly refused to pull over, leading the deputy on a pursuit down Locust Grove Road and Dublin Hill Road. Despite the deputy utilizing full emergency lights and sirens, the vehicle continued to flee.

The Arrest and Confrontation
The chase eventually came to a halt, but the danger escalated once the vehicle stopped. Investigators report that Brill exited the vehicle and became combative, refusing to comply with the deputy’s commands.
During a struggle to place the suspect under arrest, the deputy observed a firearm inside Brill’s vehicle. The situation reached a critical point as the deputy was forced to draw his service weapon to regain control of the scene and ensure his own safety. Brill was eventually taken into custody without further incident.
Evidence and Charges
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded firearm, along with an unspecified amount of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Tracy Brill now faces several serious charges, including:
- Two counts of Failure to Comply (with the order or signal of a police officer)
- Possession of Drugs
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Brill was transported to the local detention center. The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office has not yet released information regarding the suspect’s bond or the specific type of narcotics recovered.
