Mary Ellen Shannon, age 86, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017, daughter of Lillie and Everett Grabill (deceased 1989). Born May 12, 1931 in Derby, Ohio. Valedictorian of Darby Township High School class of 1949. Married Russell K. Shannon September 10, 1950 in Greenland Church. Deceased 1991. Survived by daughter Sharon and David Christopher, Chillicothe, Ohio. Son David and Lisa Shannon of Orient, Ohio. Grandchildren Michael Christopher, Tiffany and Daniel Magill, Sarah and Elizabeth Shannon. Great Grandchildren Ava Christopher, David and Austin Magill, Ashley Clark, Ginesca and Terrance Hicks. Great Great Grandchildren Jayden and Aubrey Hicks. Sister in Laws Ruth Shannon, Janice Carnes, and Patty Shannon, many nieces and nephews.
Mary Ellen was a contented homemaker for many years. Once her children were in school, she was a cook at Darby School for 10 years. She worked at Big Lots wholesale division as the Wholesale Invoice Supervisor for 35 years, retiring at the age of 76 in 2007.
Mary Ellen loved the farm as a farmer’s daughter, a farmer’s wife and a farmer’s mother.
She was a member of Grove City Church of the Nazarene, Member of Sterling Chapter #74 Order of the Eastern Star (for 67 years), Past Matron of Sterling Chapter serving in 1965 and 1996, Grand Representative of Manitoba in 1990 and Deputy Grand Matron in 1997.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. An Eastern Star service will also be given at that time in memory of Mary Ellen. Pastor Owen Stotts and Pastor Calvin Green will officiate. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
