LUCASVILLE, Ohio — A Portsmouth woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a stabbing that left a Lucasville man critically injured, according to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff David Thoroughman said deputies responded to a residence on Ridge Lane in Lucasville at approximately 5:53 p.m. on June 4 after the Scioto County 911 Communication Center received a report of a man who had been stabbed.
Upon arrival, deputies found 45-year-old Larry William Gill of Lucasville suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Emergency medical personnel transported Gill to Southern Ohio Medical Center before he was airlifted to an out-of-town trauma center for specialized treatment.
Authorities said Gill has undergone two surgeries related to his injuries and remains in critical condition.
Detectives assigned to the case determined that 40-year-old Rheena Nichole Shaw of Portsmouth had been visiting the residence earlier in the day. Investigators allege that as Shaw was leaving the home, she stabbed Gill in the chest before fleeing the scene on foot.
Law enforcement officers later located Shaw and took her into custody without incident.
Shaw appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Thursday, June 11, for her arraignment. She is being held on a $100,000 bond and faces one count of attempted murder, a first-degree felony, and two counts of felonious assault, both second-degree felonies.
Sheriff Thoroughman said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional charges may be presented to a future session of the Scioto County Grand Jury as the case progresses.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel of the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office at 740-351-1091.
