Atlanta, Georgia (January 27, 2025) — Global nonprofit Point 27 recently paid tribute to fallen U.S. Army veteran and Ohio Corrections Officer Andrew Lansing, who tragically lost his life on Christmas morning in 2024. Lansing was assaulted and killed by an inmate at the Ross Correctional Institution in the prison yard.

To honor Lansing’s service and sacrifice, Point 27 sent gifts to those who worked closely with him, including scripture-inscribed Thin Blue Line Shields of Strength dog-tag necklaces for his fellow correction officers. Additionally, Lansing’s family received scripture-inscribed Folded Flag Pendant Keepsake Necklaces as a symbol of their loss and enduring love.

Point 27, based in Atlanta and led by U.S. Army (Ret.) Col. David Dodd, has long been dedicated to honoring those who serve in the military and law enforcement. “It is tragic that this officer and his family sacrificed so much,” Dodd said. “We salute their courageous and selfless commitments to service and sacrifice.”

Dodd emphasized that the increasing hostility toward law enforcement in some communities has only highlighted the need for support and encouragement for officers and their families. “In these days when so many are publicly attacking, criticizing and questioning law enforcement, we remain resolutely dedicated to sharing God’s Word with them and their families to encourage them and to show appreciation for their sacrifice and service,” Dodd said. “We want them to know we value them, God loves them, and they are never alone.”
The Thin Blue Line Shields of Strength dog tags feature an engraved silver American flag with a blue stripe, symbolizing the law enforcement community. The back of each dog tag is inscribed with Matthew 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” The design and scripture were chosen by law enforcement officers.
The Folded Flag Pendant necklaces, engraved with John 15:13, read: “Greater love has no one than this; to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Point 27’s outreach, originally founded by Dodd in 2014 to honor military members and their families, expanded in 2016 to include law enforcement after requests from the community.
Dodd, who commanded the first troops deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11, was inspired to share the scripture-inscribed dog tags that had encouraged him and his soldiers during their deployments. Having served 27 years with four deployments, Dodd founded Point 27 to provide the same support and encouragement to those who continue to serve.
