Pickaway County emergency crews sprang into action this morning after a dog became trapped on a frozen pond in the 26000 block of Morris Salem Road.

Around 8:40 a.m., Pickaway Township Fire Department and the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a dog that had fallen through the ice and was struggling to stay afloat. Upon arrival, crews found a Labrador retriever with only its head above the water, trapped in the freezing conditions.

PTFD Chief 201, PCSO Corporal Montgomery, and a Pickaway Township Trustee worked together to retrieve the dog. Using a small boat, they ventured out onto the ice to rescue the animal.

The dog, which was covered in ice, was quickly brought to safety and immediately transported to Brookhill Animal Clinic for emergency treatment. Thankfully, the dog is reported to be doing well and will remain under observation for the day.

The successful rescue highlights the quick response and teamwork of local emergency crews who were able to save the dog from the perilous situation.
