Franklin – On May 31, 2022, at approximately 11:00pm, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls reporting a single car crash in the eastbound lanes of West Broad Street at the I-270 overpass in Prairie Township.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the location and discovered a white Ford Crown-Victoria that had crashed into the I-270 bridge abutment column from the eastbound lanes of West Broad Street. Inside the vehicle, deputies found that the driver had been shot at least one time and his female passenger had also sustained life treating injuries, likely from the crash.
Prairie Township Fire Department medics arrived and pronounced the male victim deceased at the scene. The female victim was transported to Ohio-Health Doctors Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Sheriff’s Office Detectives investigating the homicide believe that the victims were fired upon by another vehicle driving along West Broad Street. Detectives believe the suspect vehicle may be an early to mid-2000 red or maroon Mercury sedan. The identity of the victims is being withheld pending notification of the next-of-kin. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time and no arrest have been made in this case. Sheriff’s Office Detectives continue to investigate.
