COLUMBUS, Ohio (February 22, 2024) – The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) announced the resumption of four investigations related to FirstEnergy and House Bill 6. These investigations, which have been on hold since August 2022 at the request of federal authorities, will resume effective February 23rd, 2024.

PUCO Chair Jenifer French emphasized the commission’s commitment to protecting Ohio consumers and following the evidence wherever it leads.

An administrative law judge will schedule hearings and deadlines for the proceedings in the coming days. This includes setting a due date for the ongoing audit of FirstEnergy’s rates related to political and charitable expenses.

Background:

These investigations are part of the broader scrutiny surrounding House Bill 6, a controversial legislation that provided financial benefits to FirstEnergy. The PUCO launched the investigations to examine potential violations of Ohio law and regulations.
