LAURELVILLE, Ohio — An officer-involved shooting is under investigation in Hocking County after a wanted suspect reportedly opened fire on deputies attempting to serve a warrant Friday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:33 a.m. on October 2, 2026, at a residence on State Route 180 near Laurelville.
According to Hocking County Sheriff Lanny E. North, deputies arrived at the scene to execute an arrest warrant for an individual wanted on a charge of felonious assault. After spotting the suspect’s vehicles parked in the driveway, deputies repeatedly ordered the occupant to step outside.
When those commands went unanswered, law enforcement officers forced entry into the home.
Once deputies were inside, the suspect emerged from a room and began shooting at the officers, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies returned fire, striking the individual and neutralizing the threat.
No deputies were injured in the gunfire exchange.

Officers on the scene immediately administered first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The suspect was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. The individual’s identity and current medical condition have not yet been released.
Agents with the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) responded to the scene and have taken the lead on the officer-involved shooting investigation.
Sheriff North emphasized that the incident remains under active investigation, though officials confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public. Additional details will be released as the investigation progresses.
