LANCASTER, Ohio — The City of Lancaster is gearing up for a packed Independence Day celebration on Saturday, July 4, 2026, featuring the return of its traditional morning parade and an evening fireworks display at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds.
As local families prepare to secure their favorite viewing areas, the Fairfield County Fair Board has announced several strict new ground rules to protect the property and ensure public safety.
Parade Route and Fairgrounds Schedule
The Lancaster Police Department will be deploying extra officers throughout the city to manage traffic and security for the day’s events:
- The Independence Day Parade: The parade kicks off at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 4. The procession will depart from the Fairfield County Fairgrounds on North Columbus Street, travel south down North Columbus Street, turn east onto West Main Street, head north on North Broad Street, and loop back to conclude at the fairgrounds.
- Gates Open: Following the conclusion of the parade, the fairgrounds gates will officially open to the public at 12:30 p.m.
- Fireworks: The grand finale fireworks display is scheduled to launch at 10:00 p.m.
Strict New Policies: No Pre-Saving with Tarps or Open Flames
To preserve the condition of the fairgrounds and mitigate fire hazards, officials have implemented notable policy changes for attendees this year:
Important Spot-Saving Restrictions: > * On Friday, July 3: Starting at noon, community members are permitted to physically mark their viewing spots on the fairgrounds. However, the use of tarps or blankets is strictly prohibited on this day because leaving them out overnight kills the grass. Any tarps or blankets placed on the ground before July 4th will be removed by staff.
- On Saturday, July 4: Beginning at noon, attendees are officially permitted to lay down blankets and tarps to secure their spots for the evening show.
Additionally, a strict “No Open Flames” policy is now in effect across the entirety of the property. This ban includes charcoal and gas grills. Fairgrounds officials warned that anyone caught lighting an open flame or operating a grill will be immediately asked to leave the grounds.
Lancaster Police are advising motorists to plan ahead for downtown street closures during the morning parade and to drive safely as heavy pedestrian traffic is expected around the fairgrounds all day.
