The sheriff’s department launched an intensive investigation on July 15, 2025, after the mother of a minor reported discovering suspicious communications between her son and Spain, who was his adult employer.

After obtaining parental consent to search the juvenile’s cellphone, detectives uncovered evidence indicating that the employer and the minor had been involved in an illicit sexual relationship.

Over the course of the subsequent investigation, detectives executed multiple search warrants, collected digital and physical evidence, and conducted interviews that ultimately led to formal criminal charges against Spain.
