CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — The Circleville Police Department answered a heavily active 49 calls for service on Thursday, May 28. The 24-hour shift was marked by a series of fraud investigations, an early-morning warrant arrest, domestic disputes, and an emergency response to a major intersection crash.
Fraud, Theft, and Assault Reports Keep Officers Moving
Property crimes and individual disputes made up a significant portion of the day’s formal investigations:
- Triple Fraud Investigations: Officers opened three separate fraud cases across the city. The first was reported on South Court Street at 10:51 a.m., followed closely by a second incident on US-23 at 11:30 a.m. A third fraud report was taken later in the evening on Half Avenue at 5:44 p.m.
- Harrison Street Incident: At 10:05 a.m., a multi-layered call brought officers to Harrison Street, resulting in a formal report involving theft, a homeless person complaint, and a hazardous spill.
- Assault & Domestic Trouble: Violent crime and family disputes required intervention as the day went on. A formal assault report was taken on Renick Avenue at 5:53 p.m. Later in the evening, officers responded to two separate domestic disturbances that resulted in official reports: one on Watt Street at 7:50 p.m. and another on Kingston Court at 10:41 p.m.
Emergency Transports and Traffic Safety
- US-23 Injury Crash: At 1:54 p.m., emergency crews rushed to US-23 following reports of a traffic accident with injuries. A medical squad responded to the scene and transported at least one occupant to the hospital. (Editor’s Note: State Highway Patrol records confirm this was the fatal four-vehicle chain-reaction crash at the intersection of US-23 and Circle Lane).
- Medical Welfare Check: Earlier in the morning, at 8:56 a.m., officers conducting a well-being check on Greenacre Court requested a squad to transport a resident to the hospital for medical care.
- Traffic Enforcement: Traffic stops throughout the day resulted in five verbal warnings (on Kingston Pike, South Washington Street, East Main Street, East Mill Street, and North Washington Street). One official citation was issued during a morning stop on East Main Street at 8:38 a.m.
Late-Night Arrests and Late-Night Sweeps
The overnight shift began with an early breakthrough when officers conducted a stop on Jackson Pike at 3:37 a.m., successfully executing an outstanding warrant and making an arrest.

Units also handled multiple complaints regarding juveniles and suspicious activity that kept cruisers moving between neighborhoods:
- Overnight Patrols: While conducting proactive checks, an officer discovered an open door on Sycamore Drive at 2:04 a.m., securing the premises as part of a preventive patrol.
- Unfounded Complaints: Police responded to three separate juvenile complaints (East Main Street, West Mill Street, and North Court Street) and three suspicious person reports (Elm Avenue, East Main Street, and Maplewood Avenue). In the majority of these instances, the individuals involved were gone on arrival or the area checked out okay.
- Atwater Avenue Focus: A single property on Atwater Avenue drew emergency services three separate times in the evening. At 7:47 p.m., a Fire/EMS alarm drop brought a squad to the scene, though it was handled without transport. Officers were called back to the street at 8:54 p.m. for a welfare check, and once more at 9:25 p.m. to investigate suspicious circumstances, both of which checked out secure.
