CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — More than 200 vehicles passed through a joint OVI checkpoint on US 22 on Friday, August 28, 2026, with local law enforcement reporting zero driver diversions for suspected alcohol or drug impairment.
The two-hour operation ran from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and was conducted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol Circleville Post, alongside the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, the Circleville Police Department, and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).
During the checkpoint, officers checked 219 vehicles. Law enforcement also deployed saturation patrols in the surrounding area to target impaired driving and prevent severe traffic crashes.
“The OVI checkpoint highlighted the strong relationships amongst law enforcement in Pickaway County,” said Lieutenant Shad Caplinger, Circleville Post Commander. “The combined efforts of all of our partners made for a safe and effective checkpoint.”
Caplinger expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from ODOT and Box 65, while reminding motorists to plan for a safe ride home and never drive under the influence.
Local officials emphasized that community support remains available for individuals struggling with substance use, noting that the Pickaway Overdose Response Team (P.O.R.T.) offers referrals and resources to local residents.
The checkpoint was funded through federal grant programs designed to deter impaired driving and raise public safety awareness.
