CHILLICOTHE, OH — The Chillicothe Police Department handled a variety of calls on Tuesday, May 5, ranging from minor traffic mishaps to investigations into theft and disorderly conduct.
Officers logged 14 primary incidents throughout the day, including several collisions and reports of suspicious activity.
Mulch Line Dispute Leads to Hit-Skip Investigation
In one of the more unusual calls of the day, officers were dispatched to the Lowe’s on North Bridge Street at 3:13 PM following a “hit-skip” accident in the drive-thru mulch line.
According to the report, a blue Subaru struck the front driver’s side of another vehicle while waiting for mulch. The victim told police that when they tried to exchange information, the other driver simply stated, “I’m not going anywhere,” and left the area. Officers later tracked the driver to a residence on Massie Avenue, where he claimed he believed he had enough room to maneuver.
Property Crimes and Trespassing
Property-related offenses kept officers busy across the city:
Post Office Trespass: Early Tuesday morning at 5:49 AM, police were called to the Central Center Post Office regarding a male subject sleeping inside the building. A report for criminal trespass was filed.
Credit Card Misuse: An investigation was launched at 7:49 AM on Mohican Court regarding a theft involving the misuse of a credit card.
General Theft: Officers responded to Ewing Street at 5:50 PM to take a report on a theft occurring without consent. Investigation into this matter is ongoing.
Traffic and Public Safety
Roadway safety remained a priority, with several accidents and stops occurring:
Injury & Hit-Skip: A hit-skip crash was reported at the BPO Gas Station on Safford Avenue at 1:20 PM. Police also investigated a crash involving a “Failure to Yield” on Western Avenue later that evening.
Domestic Incident: Officers responded to Whaley Place at 7:03 AM for a possible domestic disturbance; the investigation into that incident remains pending.
Disorderly Conduct: Two separate calls for disorderly conduct were logged—one on East 5th Street just after midnight and another involving a juvenile on Orange Street at 7:10 PM.
The department also assisted in “non-criminal” matters, including the recovery of a found cell phone brought to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) and a non-injury collision at the intersection of East Main and North Bridge Street, which resulted in a citation.
