CHILLICOTHE, OH – The Chillicothe Police Department stayed on the move Thursday, April 23, handling over 20 incidents ranging from routine traffic stops to reports of threats involving firearms. The department’s daily media report, released Friday morning, highlights a demanding day for local law enforcement.

Tensions High on North Sugar Street

Officers responded to one of the day’s most serious calls at 6:00 PM on North Sugar Street. Dispatchers warned of a domestic argument involving a firearm. Upon arrival, police found a male and female separated, with reports indicating a gun may have been inside the man’s vehicle. An investigation into aggravated menacing is currently underway. Later that night, around 10:45 PM, officers returned to the same street to handle a separate domestic disturbance.

Drugs and Warrants

Proactive policing led to several arrests throughout the day:

  • Narcotics Seized: A traffic stop on East 7th Street early Thursday afternoon resulted in the discovery of cocaine. Later that night, a warrant arrest led to further charges for drug possession and obstructing official business.
  • Jailhouse Service: Officers visited the Ross County Jail at noon to serve Lenny Adkins with two active warrants.
  • Bridge Street Stops: The North Bridge Street corridor remained a hotspot, starting with a 1:25 AM traffic stop for an active warrant and ending the morning with an investigation into a motor vehicle parts theft.

Roadway Incidents and Vandalism

The city saw its share of traffic mishaps and property crimes:

  • Crashes: Accidents were reported at the BP on Safford Avenue, as well as on Central Center and North High Street. Citations were issued for yielding violations and failing to maintain a safe following distance (ACDA).
  • Vandalism: At 4:25 PM, officers were dispatched to the 40 block of East 2nd Street (Karate Don Madden) regarding a vandalism complaint.
  • Unusual Stops: One traffic stop on Enderlin Circle involved “toy vehicles on the street,” resulting in a citation for failure to control.

Community Welfare

In a more somber turn, officers performed a welfare check on North High Street at 3:36 PM. Police confirmed a “non-suspicious” death at the scene.

While many of these cases remain under active investigation, the CPD continues to process reports of harassment, criminal trespass on East Main Street, and various disorderly conduct complaints across the city from Sherman Park to Jefferson Avenue.
