A Lancaster house fire Tuesday morning claimed the life of one person after firefighters were called to a South Eastwood Avenue home following reports of smoke coming from the residence.
LANCASTER, Ohio — One person was found dead following a house fire Tuesday morning in Lancaster, according to the Lancaster Fire Department.
Fire crews were dispatched around 9:45 a.m. to the 200 block of South Eastwood Avenue after a passerby reported seeing smoke coming from a nearby residence.
Lancaster Fire Chief Slade Schultz said firefighters located a male victim inside the home and removed him from the residence. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the person killed has not yet been released.
Chief Schultz said one cat died in the fire, while three other cats were rescued from the home. The surviving animals were turned over to the care of the Fairfield County Humane Society.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Further details are expected as officials continue their investigation.
