PICKAWAY – A police chase after a domestic incident has ended in a crash with injuries in Pickaway County

On 01-09-2023 at 2000 hrs. Commercial Point PD advised of being in a pursuit with a suspect vehicle that was from 4800 Duvall Rd Lot 129. The Commercial Point officer stated that they were eastbound on SR 762 just passing 104. The sheriff’s department was close to the intersection of U S 23 and S R 762. The unit then stopped the northbound and southbound traffic and waited until the suspect vehicle and Commercial Point officer continued through this intersection. This unit then got in behind the Commercial Point officer and was traveling east at a speed of around 90
mph. Cpl. Robert Morningstar was set up just east of our location and had thrown out his stop sticks. The suspect vehicle ran over the spike strips, and two of the Commercial point patrol vehicles also ran over the spike strips resulting in both of the Commercial Point patrol vehicles stopping to pursue the suspect vehicle.

Sheriff’s department then became the lead pursuit car at this time. This unit continued to pursue the suspect vehicle on Duvall Rd where the driver of this vehicle had driven through the intersection of Ashville Pike at a speed of 65 MPH. The suspect vehicle then continued to drive east on Duvall Rd. at a speed of around 60 MPH. This unit observed parts of the front right tire coming off of the suspect vehicle at this time. The vehicle then attempted to turn into the east entrance of 4800 Duvall Rd and struck another vehicle that was attempting to exit out of the trailer park.

The driver of the suspect vehicle then got out of his vehicle, acted like he had a pistol in his hands, and was pointing his fingers at this unit in an attempt for this unit to shoot this subject. This suspect then ran behind a trailer and was taken into custody by OSP Trooper and Pickaway Sheriff’s department. The unit had used the presence of the laser lights from the Taser to get the attention of this male suspect to keep him from resisting these officers.
The male subject was identified as Russell Laird from 4800 Duvall Rd Lot 129. This Unit had Deputy Welch read Russell the Ohio 2255 OVI form. Scioto Twp EMS then transported Russell Laird to Berger Hospital for unknown injuries. Harrison Twp EMS transported the female driver of the other vehicle to Berger for unknown injuries.

Laird was charged with domestic violence, assault, OVI, Domestic Violence, Failure to comply, operating a motor vehicle without control
