Amanda OH- Sophie M. Mazgay, age 17 of Amanda passed away as the result of an automobile accident. She was born November 22, 2002 in Lancaster, the daughter of Pam Cottrill and Ted Mazgay. She was a beloved senior at Amanda-Clearcreek High School where she played second and third base as a member of the Varsity Softball Team. She also played for many years on the USSSA Pride Blue Travel Ball team from Lancaster. Her friends will always remember her for her contagious smile and her ability to light up any room she entered. She was a leader who was always able to lift the spirits of her teammates, classmates, family, friends and teachers. Words that come to mind to describe her would be kind-hearted, encouraging, uplifting, smiling, and determined. She was the kind of student that made others want to come to school everyday.

She is survived by her parents, Pam and Mark Cottrill; brother, Colten (Tessa Bigerton) Cooper, of Lancaster; sister Chelsea (Casey Baeza) Cooper, of Lancaster; uncle Bart Thompson, of Lancaster; step brothers, Jason (Bethany) Cottrill and Kaylem (Kristin) Cottrill, both of Lancaster; several other aunts, uncles and cousins; close friends, Ethan, Emily, and Logann;  also Chris Mason and many other coaches that have guided her over the years; many more friends—too many to name. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Delmas and Phyllis (Bell) Thompson and Correna (Wheeler) Cottrill.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the Amanda-Clearcreek High School Gymnasium. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the school. Cremation will follow. There will be a meal following the service at the school for all to share in a time of fellowship and support.

Sophie’s family requests, in lieu of flowers, a gift to the Amanda-Clearcreek Athletic Boosters, 328 East Main Street, Amanda, OH 43102.
