OHIO – The migration of the hummingbird is in full swing, some birds are heading out of Ohio and to parts South now and all will be gone by mid-October.
The Ruby-throated hummingbird common to Ohio is heading to its winter vacation in deep south Mexico and South America.
Ruby-throated hummingbirds can travel over a thousand miles non-stop and head to the southern regions to survive over the winter, but don’t take those feeders down until mid-October to make sure they are fully gassed up for the huge flight.
Incredibly Hummingbirds will return to the feeders that they know year after year through the migration journey. Scientists cannot explain how individual birds have this mapped year after year.
According to the Hummingbirdcentral migration map, some birds have already left Ohio check it out here: https://www.hummingbirdcentral.com/hummingbird-migration-spring-2021-map.htm
