Pickaway County, OH — Pickaway County officials have released details about a tragic single-vehicle accident that occurred early on September 4, 2024. The incident involved a 2012 Ford Focus traveling southbound on US-23 around 3:30 a.m.
According to the report, the vehicle veered off the roadway into the dividing median before reaching the Hagerty Road crossover. The car then rolled onto its left side and struck the crossover embankment. Evidence suggests that the vehicle went airborne since there were no impact marks on the blacktop of the crossover. After landing on its wheels, the car continued to travel southbound in the median before coming to a stop.
Payne was transferred to local hospitals, and then to Grant Hospital
On September 6, 2024, the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Eric Payne, 53, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, had succumbed to his injuries. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation as authorities work to determine the cause of the accident.
Payne is brothers with Keith Carroll another local man here in Circleville, both are part of the “Ready to Burn Rubber: bicycle club in the city that has brought children, and people from all walks of life out and on two wheels for the community.
