Ashville OH – A 911 call came into Pickaway County at 10:20 A.M. of the report of a mobile home in the 14000 block of State Route 104 in Scioto Township was on fire with smoke and fire showing. Neighbors believed that the man that lived there was still home.

When Pickaway County Sheriff Corporal arrived on scene he attempted to gain access to the home by kicking the front door in, but couldn’t make entry into the home for the heavy amount of smoke that was inside. The Corporal then went to the rear of trailer and beat down the rear door of the trailer with a sledge hammer. This unit couldn’t gain entry to the home for the large amount of smoke coming out of this door and inside the home. This unit observed flames shooting out of a window to the window that was on the right side of this exterior door. The Officer then went to the front side of the residence where the neighbors thought the resident Jeffrey Brown’s bedroom was at. The officer found that Jeffrey had these windows boarded up from the inside of the residence. This unit busted out two windows near the south
east corner of the trailer and found that Jeffrey had stuff
behind the windows preventing entry into the home.

When fire crews arrived on scene they found the rear of the home engulfed, with heavy smoke coming from the front. It was believed that the occupant of the home was still inside. The confirmation didn’t happen right away because of the seriousness of the fire and the difficulty for fire crews to get inside because of boarded up windows.

It was just a few minutes before 11:00A.M. when emergency crews were able to get the fire under control and to get the trailer vented enough to find the owner of the trailer Jeff Brown, 59 deceased inside.

At 1132 Hrs. Pickaway County Coroner John Ellis arrived on
the scene and requested for Jeffrey Brown to be transported
to the Montgomery County Morgue for an autopsy.

Scioto Township fire, Jackson Township fire, Harrison Township Fire, and Pickaway County Sheriff were on scene.

This case is still under investigation.
