Triple Fatality Crash on US 50 in Athens County

ATHENS, OH – June 13, 2024 – Troopers from the Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a devastating two-vehicle crash that claimed the lives of three individuals. The collision occurred at approximately 1:28 p.m. on U.S. Route 50 in Athens County.

Kody R. Zimmerman, 31, of Athens, Ohio, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on U.S. Route 50. Jeremy A. Trisch, 45, of Jackson, Ohio, was operating a 2017 Peterbilt semi-truck westbound on the same route. The accident happened when Zimmerman attempted to turn left from U.S. Route 50 onto County Road 19 and was struck on the passenger side by the semi.

Both vehicles veered off the north side of the roadway and came to a stop. Tragically, Zimmerman and his two passengers, Jacob C. Hammond, 25, of Millfield, Ohio, and Mallory H. Fussner, 24, of Athens, Ohio, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Athens Fire Department, Richland Area Fire Department, Athens Police Department, Athens County EMS, and the Athens County Coroner’s Office.
