Surprise “Free Inspection” Turns into Total Roof Replacement for Circleville Family

CIRCLEVILLE, OH — For Ryan and Mackenzie Ogan, a Tuesday morning that began with the stress of a failing roof ended with a community-led miracle.

In a coordinated surprise on April 28, 2026, the Pearl Avenue residents were woken up for what they believed was a routine “free inspection.” Instead, they were met by a fleet of roofing trucks, cameras, and a team of local leaders ready to provide a total roof replacement at no cost.

A Heartfelt Plea Answered

The giveaway was the result of a partnership between Scioto Post, local entrepreneur Brandon Schlichter of Investment Joy, and Cole Simpson, known to his massive social media following as Soda City Simpson.

The Ogans were selected from a pool of applicants after submitting a heartfelt video detailing the toll the leaky roof had taken on their lives. Despite their best efforts to restore their home, constant water infiltration was destroying their property and belongings.

“Their roof was regularly destroying things in their home that they have been trying so hard to restore,” organizers noted, citing the severe condition of the structure as a primary reason for their selection.

More Than Just a Roof

The surprise extended beyond the house. In a display of community synergy, Mike Cessna, owner of Elite Mobile Tire Repair, joined the effort to repair the Ogans’ non-working vehicle.

The Ogans, known for their generosity, had recently given away one of their functioning vehicles to a family member in need. This left the family with unreliable transportation, forcing Mackenzie to navigate a difficult schedule driving Ryan to work and the kids around town. By the end of the day, their vehicle was back in service.

50 Roofs in 50 States

The project marked a major milestone for Soda City Simpson. Circleville served as the first out-of-state stop for his “50 Roofs in 50 States” initiative, a mission to provide free roofing to needy homeowners across the country while documenting the impact on social media.

The collaboration was born from a long-standing friendship between Simpson and Schlichter (Investment Joy), who worked together to bring the initiative to Pickaway County.

Give these groups a follow for their impact on the community.

A City-Wide Effort

The event drew support from the highest levels of local government, as Circleville Mayor Michelle Blanton arrived on-site to witness the transformation. Even the Ogan children were included in the celebration, walking away with gifts from the various sponsors.

For the Ogan family, the day represented more than just home maintenance—it was a life-changing reset provided by a community that refused to let them struggle in silence.
