Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail Refuses Two Men One with Four Warrants, the Other a Drunk Driver

NELSONVILLE – The community did not get a reprieve from a man who is a nuisance to society Sunday after he was caught breaking more laws and let go.

According to Nelsonville police, 10:47AM Officers responded to Watkins St in order to attempt to locate a male subject. Officers located and detained the male. The Code Enforcement Officer was requested to the scene. A consent to search was given; drug items were located in plain view. Officers also located and seized many stolen items. It was determined that the male had four active warrants for his arrest.

The Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail was contacted but they refused to accept the male due to no available bed space. The male was released.

This has been a common occurrence in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail a second incident happened on Sunday where a man who was slumped over a wheel in a running car was also released.

According to police on Sunday 08:09 PM Officers responded to JLE Dr for a report of an individual under the 33 overpass that was slumped over in the vehicle with the vehicle running. EMS was requested to the scene. Erin Oakley was arrested and charged with OVI.

Again the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail was contacted but refused to accept Oakley, stating that there was no available bed space. A local towing company was requested to the scene and towed the vehicle upon their arrival. Erin Oakley was released to a family member.
