Sesame Street Actor Emilio Delgado Who Played Luis Dead at 81

US – Emilio Delgado, the actor and singer who for 45 years has delighted several generations of children on Sesame Street has died on Thursday.

Delgado was a familiar character on the show as  American television as fix-it shop owner Luis.

Delagdo broke a non-typical stereotype at the time being a Latino, and helped pave the roadway for more culture in television.

The character Luis, joined the Streets in 1971 and was a character until 2016.

Delgado was born in 1940 in Calexico, California, near the U.S.-Mexico border and raised a few miles away in Mexicali, Mexico.

Sesame Street wasn’t his only part in his over 45 years of acting, Lou Grant, Quincy M.E., Falcon crest, and Law and Order he played roles on.

Delgado was diagnosed with multiple myeloma late in 2020, but was still making appearances and giving interviews in 2021, until his health started to decline.
