Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman states that his 9-1-1 Communication Center received a 9-1-1 call on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from a female located at 2874 Tatman-Coe Road, McDermott, Ohio, claiming that her husband had just been shot in the face.
Sheriff Thoroughman stated that deputies, along with emergency medical squads, responded to this location. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim of the shooting, William Issac Dummitt, age 23, of the same address, had a gun shot wound to the face. Deputies learned that the male suspect had
left in a truck. The victim was transported by ambulance to Southern Ohio Medical Center, then later transported to a trauma center to undergo surgery. He is currently in stable condition.
Detectives were able to process the scene, collecting evidence and obtaining witnesses statements. Sheriff Thoroughman stated that while deputies were out on Tatman-Coe Road that his 9-1-1 Communication Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting that a truck had been involved in a crash on Pollock Road. The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to this call and found a truck that had crashed. That truck matched the description of the one in which the suspect had fled Tatman-Coe Road. Deputies and detectives responded to the crash scene and recovered a firearm from inside of the truck. The suspect was later located on foot in the area. He was transported by squad to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment.
The suspect was interviewed at S.O.M.C. and evidence was collected which resulted in the arrest of the suspect. The suspect was sent to Grant Hospital, in Columbus, for observation and further testing. He was discharged and brought to the Scioto County Jail on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
Arrested was Henry Allan Clay Jr., age 26, of 6044 Camp Creek Road, Lucasville, Ohio. Clay has been charged with 1 count of Felonious Assault, a felony of the 2 nd degree, 1 count of Having Weapons while under Disability, a felony of the 3 rd degree, and Operating a Vehicle Under the
Influence, a misdemeanor. Clay is being held on a $50,000 bond after appearing in Portsmouth Municipal Court on May 22, 2023.
