Ross County – Woman Charged with OVI After Wrong-Way Driving on Bridge Street

Chillicothe – On September 5, 2022 at approximately 2141 hrs., Ross County 9-1-1 received two separate calls reporting a wrong way driver on S. Bridge Street near Lunbeck Road.

Both callers reported a small sedan was traveling north on S. Bridge Street in the southbound lane. One of the callers stayed on the line with dispatch and followed the vehicle until law enforcement could make contact.


The caller who stayed on the line with dispatch reported the vehicle was unable to maintain their lane of travel swerving in and out of traffic. The caller reported the vehicle turned onto Eastern Ave., from S. Bridge Street and almost struck several vehicles head on. The caller reported the vehicle proceeded to travel east on Eastern Ave., and got onto US RT 23 southbound at speeds of nearly 85 MPH.


The caller reported the vehicle proceeded to travel south on US RT 23 and got off the highway at the Three Locks Rd., exit early running
off the roadway. The caller reported the vehicle proceeded to travel south on S. Bridge St., and got onto the US RT 23 northbound exit.

It was at this time Deputies made contact with the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on the ramp to US RT 23 northbound from S. Bridge St.


The driver who was later identified as Cora Wingo. I smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath and person. When asked if she had been consuming alcohol she told me “yes.” Cora told me she drank a “Buzzball” cocktail and that she was coming from Paint Creek where she had been fishing. Cora agreed to submit to field sobriety test.

Wingo was charged with Open Container Liquor; OVI – at least .08 but less
than .17 of alcohol per 210 liters of breath; OVI
