In a coordinated effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, a significant narcotics bust occurred on May 21, 2024, along US-35 in Ross County, Ohio. Deputies from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Greenfield Police Department K-9 Unit, teamed up with the RCSO Special Investigations Unit and the US-23 Major Crimes Task Force to apprehend the suspect.

The operation began around 7:15 p.m. when deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling eastbound on US-35, just east of CR-87. The driver, identified as Joe Spencer, was the subject of an ongoing narcotics investigation. A Narcotics K-9 alerted authorities to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

During the traffic stop, Spencer attempted to flee on foot but was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement after a brief struggle. He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Ross County Jail.

The deputies involved in the operation described a tense confrontation as they worked to subdue Spencer. Despite his resistance, law enforcement officers managed to detain him and secure him in handcuffs.

A search of the vehicle yielded significant evidence, including bags containing suspected narcotics (1/2 pound of suspected Methamphetamine and approximately 1 ounce of suspected Fentanyl.) and a cell phone believed to be connected to the illegal activity. The seized items were cataloged and placed into evidence for further investigation.

Following the arrest, Spencer was booked into the Ross County Jail on charges of obstructing official business and resisting arrest. Additionally, he was issued traffic citations for driving with a suspended license and failure to signal.

The successful operation was the result of close collaboration between law enforcement agencies and underscores their commitment to combating drug-related crimes in the community. Further investigation into the case is ongoing, with additional charges pending laboratory results and further analysis of the evidence collected.

The deputies involved in the operation demonstrated professionalism and dedication in their efforts to apprehend Spencer and disrupt the flow of narcotics in the area. Their swift and decisive actions reflect the tireless efforts of law enforcement to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
