COLUMBUS – Representative Brian Stewart (R-Ashville) will provide sponsor testimony today on HCR 34, a resolution to urge the Ohio delegation of the United States Congress to investigate and prevent conflicts of interest between federal agencies and the consulting firm McKinsey & Company, in front of the Ohio House Government Oversight Committee.

The testimony occurs on the same day that the managing partner of McKinsey will testify in front of the U.S. House Oversight and Reform Committee on the role played by McKinsey in the opioid epidemic and to respond to a stunning congressional report revealing that his company’s consultants were simultaneously working for Purdue Pharma, the manufacturer of the opioid OxyContin, and the Food and Drug Administration.

“McKinsey has admitted to crafting strategies for its billion-dollar pharmaceutical clients to boost corporate profits by misrepresenting opioid risks, undermining public health regulations and heavily marketing OxyContin to doctors prone to overprescribing opioids. They must be held more accountable at the state and federal level.”

“This resolution sends a message that the scrutiny of McKinsey’s actions shouldn’t end with a financial settlement. More needs to be done to hold McKinsey accountable criminally and financially. I encourage my colleagues in the Ohio House and Senate to support and immediately pass this resolution”
