CAMBRIDGE, Ohio — In a major boost to eastern Ohio’s green economy, Comstock Metals LLC announced Wednesday that it has selected Cambridge as the location for its new industrial-scale solar panel recycling and production facility.

The project, launched in collaboration with state economic development groups JobsOhio and Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE), is expected to create 20 new full-time positions in Jackson Township.

The expansion is backed by a newly approved $75,000 JobsOhio Grant, aimed at driving regional business expansion and job creation.

A Zero-Landfill Solution for Solar Waste

Comstock Metals, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nevada-based Comstock Inc. (NYSE: LODE), operates the only certified, zero-landfill solar recycling solution in North America.

Using a fully circular recycling process developed at its flagship facility in Silver Springs, Nevada, the company cleanly recovers 100% of the valuable commodities wrapped inside spent solar infrastructure. The Cambridge operation will process end-of-life solar panels to cleanly extract high-purity aluminum, copper, silver, and glass beads, which will be resold directly back into Midwest industrial supply chains.

“The speed that we deploy our recycling network is critical to keeping these hazardous materials out of our landfills, communities, and ecosystems,” said Corrado De Gasperis, Chief Executive Officer of Comstock Inc.

Sashing Transportation Costs in the Tech Corridor

The selection of Guernsey County is a highly strategic logistical move. The company has secured a 21,570-square-foot facility equipped with an adjacent laydown yard to serve as its primary Eastern U.S. logistics hub.

According to company officials, long-distance transportation alone typically accounts for 30% to 50% of total recycling expenses. Establishing a permanent footprint in East-Central Ohio allows Comstock to dramatically cut those freight costs while positioning its operations closer to a rapidly growing customer base of solar power producers, manufacturers, and operations groups across the Midwest and Northeast.

“Comstock Metals’ decision to establish its first Ohio processing and production facility in Cambridge reflects the strategic advantages the state offers growing companies,” said JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef. “With its centralized location and strong logistics network, Cambridge is well positioned to support Comstock Metals’ continued expansion.”

Local Leadership Welcomes Green Tech

Regional development leaders praised the announcement as a testament to the ongoing economic momentum sweeping through eastern and southeastern Ohio.

“Guernsey County is excited to welcome Comstock Metals to the community,” said Bill Arnett, Executive Director of the Cambridge-Guernsey County Community Improvement Corporation (CIC). “We look forward to supporting them through their local startup and in future growth opportunities.”

As decommissioning volumes of early-generation solar panels continue to skyrocket across the United States, the Cambridge facility will serve as a foundational piece of Comstock’s scaling national network, moving the region into a central role for renewable energy sustainability.
