Melvin D. Fox

Melvin D. Fox, 75, of Circleville, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Fairfield Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 28, 1939, in Laurelville, the son of Eldon and Nellie (Lindsay) Fox.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Richard and his wife, Jo Ann Fox, and Robert Douglas Fox; son-in-law, John Henson; brother-in-law, Gary Hovatter; and nephews, Ryan Fox and Michael Hovatter.

Melvin graduated in 1957 from Laurelville High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962. He retired from Dupont after 36 years of service.

Melvin was a member of the Elks, where he enjoyed playing euchre, and was a lifetime member of the VFW, where he played bar bingo on Tuesdays and poker with the guys on Wednesdays. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden.

Melvin leaves behind his “special girls” who were his greatest joy in life: his loving wife of 53 years, Helen (Dixon) Fox; his devoted daughter, Melissa Henson; the apple of his eye, his “Babe,” granddaughter, Kendall Henson; and great-granddoggy, Rosie. He is also survived by his sister, Frances “Frankie” Hovatter; sister-in-law, Ruth Fox; brother- and sister-in-law, Paul and Nancy Dixon; many nieces, nephews and other family members; and a host of wonderful friends, including special friend, Doyle Kiser, and Mel’s Elk brothers.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Mike Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Green Summit Cemetery with military services provided by AMVETS Post 2256 Honor Guard. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with an Elks service at 5 p.m.
