The team from Westfall Middle School finished in second place at the regional middle school Battle Over Books held May 11 at the Maxwell Center at Ohio Christian University.

Westfall competed against teams from Circleville, Hilliard, Groveport Madison, Canal Winchester, Logan and New Lexington at the event.

Prior to the event, the students read from a list of 16 books that included such titles as “Schooled” by Gordon Korman, “The Chocolate War” by Robert Cormier, “Double Identity” by Margaret Peterson Haddix and S.A. Bodeen’s “The Compound.”

Questions created by the teams’ advisers for the competition were from the 16 titles and were formatted so the answer was the title of one of the books. On the day of the event, the teams competed against each other to see who could answer the most questions about the books quickly and correctly.

After two matches of an alternating question round and a lightning round each, whichever teams had the most points moved on until there were two teams remaining. Those two teams then battled it out, with Westfall taking second to Canal Winchester.

Westfall Middle School team members were Jadid Foreman, Samuel Frazier, Kayce Martin, Olivia O’Neill, Aliya Patterson, Grace Poole, Ariane Sias, Kayley Thomas, Jacob Thompson, and Matthew Walker. Mrs. Stephanie Davey and Mrs. Cheryl Lorson served as the advisers.
