CIRCLEVILLE – A Circleville man was found not guilty of felonious assault on Tuesday following a jury trial in Pickaway County Common Pleas Court.

Asa Brewer, 22, of East Main Street, was accused of striking William Walker and breaking his jaw in the early morning hours of July 25, 2015.

The incident occurred at the Route 56 West residence of Mason L. Graham and Ashley Woolever during a party about 3 a.m.

During the trial, Brewer admitted striking Walker, but he claimed it was in self-defense and in defense of another person, Trevor Graham.

A jury of six men and six women deliberated about 30 minutes before returning a not guilty verdict in the two-day criminal case.

Tony Chamberlain, assistant county prosecutor, represented the State of Ohio and called four witnesses at the trial. James R. Kingsley, representing Brewer, called five witnesses.

Judge P. Randall Knece presided over the trial in Pickaway County Common Pleas Court.
