Ohio Issue 1 Fails by Majority

OHIO – Polls have now closed for the special August 8th election, which had only one issue, Issue 1

Issue 1, a legislature-initiated amendment to Ohio’s constitution that would raise the threshold for future constitutional amendments to become law. If Passed Issue 1 would raise the bar for Constitutional amendments to pass by a 60% margin instead of a majority. It also made for harder restrictions on citizen-initiated amendments on the ballot, forcing signatures from 5% of all voters of Ohio’s 88 counties.

Issue 1 also eliminates a 10-day cure period petitioners have to gather more signatures if they failed to meet the signature requirement.
