Nelsonville OH- Police Releasing Felony Offenders Due to Lack of Space at Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail

Nelsonville OH- Scioto Post reads the Nelsonville Police Department reports each day they are released and day after day, we see the same patern.

The Police arrest the bad guys and the Southeastern Regional Jail refuses to incarcerate due to lack of space. Some of these offenders committed serious felonies and that has to be more than frustrating for Law Enforcement and local citizens. We have highlighted three of these reports below for your viewing.

12:01AM Officers responded to Crihfield Dr for a request of a well-being check.

07:24AM Officers performed a vehicle stop on W Washingotn St. The driver of the vehicle was given a verbal warning for a speed related violation, then released.

08:29AM Officers performed a vehicle stop on W Canal St. The driver of the vehicle was given a verbal warning for a speed related violation, then released.

09:16AM Officers performed a vehicle stop on W Washington St. The driver of the vehicle was given a verbal warning for a speed related violation, then released.

09:26AM Officers observed a male individual walking on Canal St who was known to have an active Felony Warrant. Officers arrested Frank Theisen. The Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail was contacted but refused to accept Theisen due to having no bed space available. Frank Theisen was released and advised to appear in Athens County Court on Thursday July 1st at 9AM.

11:07AM Officers performed a vehicle stop on E Canal St. The driver of the vehicle was given a verbal warning about contacting the BMV since he had painted his vehicle and not reported the change. He was then released.

11:15AM Officers responded to E Canal St for a report of a Trespassing Complaint. The caller reported that a named male individual was in front of a building trying to take a bath. Officers located the male beside Ed Map. He was trespassed from the property.

01:11PM Officers performed a vehicle stop on W Columbus St. Scott Russell was issued a citation for Driving Under Suspension. A valid driver took over possession of the vehicle.

02:06PM Officers responded to Dalton Dr for a report of a Domestic Disturbance. The situation was determined to be verbal only.

03:11PM Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop near St Rt 691. The driver failed to comply, and a pursuit ensued. The Athens County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the pursuit that led Officers into Waterloo Township with speeds of over 60mph being reached. When the vehicle was finally stopped, the driver got out and fled on foot. Tasers were deployed. Douglas Miller and Angela Miller were charged and released due to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail advising that no bed space was available at this time. Drugs and Paraphernalia were found. Future Indictments are pending.

04:58PM Officers performed a vehicle stop on E Canal St. The driver of the vehicle was given a verbal warning, then released.

05:03PM Officers performed a vehicle stop on E Canal St. The driver of the vehicle was given a verbal warning, then released.

05:12PM Officers responded to E Canal St for an investigative complaint. Bradley Slayton was arrested and transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

05:36PM Officers responded to High St for an investigative complaint. A male juvenile as brought back to the PD and will be charged through the Prosecutors Office for Menacing and Disorderly Conduct. The juvenile was also trespassed from the residence, then released to his guardian.

06:20PM Officers responded to E Canal St for a report of a child custody dispute. Situation resolved.

06:39PM Officers responded to the Kroger Parking Lot for a report of a narcotics related complaint advising of drug deals taking place. K9 Attila was released to perform a free air sniff of multiple vehicles to which Attila positively indicated on them. A search of the vehicles revealed large amounts of Crystal Meth, and Miscellaneous Pills. A local towing company was requested, and the vehicles were towed. Amber Hupp, Leslie Koon and Ryan Koon were all arrested. Leslie Koon was released due to the Regional Jail stating that they did not have anymore bed space available at this time. Amber Hupp and Ryan Koon were transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

10:12PM Officers responded to High St for a Knock & Talk. Consent to search the basement was given by the resident.

10:27PM Officers responded to E Canal St for a report of a suspicious person. The male individual was advised to stay off the property.

11:33PM Officers responded to W Washington St for a report of a suspicious person. The caller reported that a female was behind her apartment digging through the trash and then was seen heading toward the library. Officers located the female suspect at the library. The female individual was advised to stay out of trash.
