PICKAWAY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A motorcycle crash involving two Harley-Davidson motorcycles sent at least one rider to a Columbus-area hospital Saturday morning, according to a crash report from the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:14 a.m. Sept. 19 on State Route 56 in Pickaway Township.
According to the sheriff’s office report, one motorcycle was blocking an intersection for a motorcycle ride traveling east on SR-56. A second motorcycle, a three-wheeled Harley-Davidson, was traveling eastbound near the rear of the group.
The report states that multiple motorcycles were traveling toward the inside of the eastbound lane while motorcycles blocking intersections were traveling and passing on the outside of the lane.
The rider of the three-wheeled motorcycle told deputies that he was forced to move to the right after motorcycles ahead of him slowed. At that time, another motorcycle was passing him.
The passing motorcycle was unable to slow in time and struck the right rear and side of the three-wheeled motorcycle, according to the report. The motorcycle then left the roadway, overturned several times and ejected its rider before coming to rest off the roadway.
The motorcycle that left the roadway was a 2023 Harley-Davidson Street Bob. The report identifies its rider as 33-year-old Luis Munz Fausto of Bloomfield, New Jersey. The motorcycle sustained disabling damage.
The other motorcycle was a 2021 Harley-Davidson Tri Glide Ultra Classic operated by 70-year-old Richard J. Pearson of McKean, Pennsylvania. Pearson was carrying a passenger, identified as 72-year-old Diane Pearson.
Fausto was transported by Pickaway County EMS to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, according to the report. The report indicates that a motorcycle helmet was used.
The report lists a citation for Fausto under Ohio Revised Code 4511.21(A), described as speed/assured clear distance.
Deputies remained at the scene for approximately 135 minutes. The crash was investigated by Pickaway County Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Montgomery, with Deputy Stacey Eitel listed as the reviewing officer.
The crash report did not indicate that alcohol or drugs were suspected as contributing factors.
