Long Time Western Pike Teacher Dies in Morning Crash

PIKE – A longtime teacher of Western Pike High School was killed when his car lost control and went off the roadway and crashed.

Accoridng to Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one vehicle fatal crash that occurred on CR-37 (Buchanan Road) near State Route 772 in Pike County at approximately 01:35 A.M. A 2000 Toyota Tacoma was negotiating a curve westbound on CR-37 when it traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert, struck a driveway pole and a tree.

The operator of the Toyota, John D. Lightle, 49, of Waverly Ohio was pronounced deceased on scene by the Pike County Coroner.

Agencies on scene were Pebble Township Fire Department and Medcare Emergency Medical Services.

Lightle was a Jr. High History teacher he taught for Wester Pike Local school district for over 25 years he was a local graduate as well.
