Hocking Hills – Celebrate Spring with Maple Syrup Fun at Ohio State Parks!

Columbus, Ohio (February 27, 2024) – Spring is on its way, and what better way to celebrate than by indulging in the delicious tradition of maple syrup making? Ohio State Parks invites you and your family to experience a range of exciting events this March, celebrating the sweet taste of local maple syrup.

ODNR Director Mary Mertz encourages everyone to join the fun: “As the maple sap begins to flow and the trees awaken from their winter slumber, our parks offer a unique opportunity to learn about maple syrup production and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.”

Five parks across the state are hosting maple syrup festivals:

Hocking Hills State Park: Immerse yourself in the history of maple syrup production with live demonstrations and learn about the process of transforming sap into syrup. Local producers will also be on hand selling their products. (March 9-10, noon to 4 p.m.)

Hueston Woods State Park: Embark on a scenic hayride and hike through the Big Woods nature preserve, learning about the art of maple syrup making along the way. Enjoy delicious food and drinks, and purchase locally produced maple syrup. (March 2, 3, 9, and 10, noon to 4 p.m.)

Indian Lake State Park: Witness a live demonstration of the maple syrup transformation process and enjoy a delicious pancake and sausage breakfast featuring pure maple syrup. (March 16, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and March 17, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

Malabar Farm State Park: Travel back in time at the 47th Annual Maple Syrup Festival, featuring live demonstrations of historic and modern maple syrup production techniques. Enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, delicious food, and a chance to purchase maple products. (March 2, 3, 9, and 10, noon to 4 p.m.)

Punderson State Park: Learn about the history of maple sugar production in Geauga County and enjoy a delectable pancake breakfast buffet at the Punderson Lodge (reservations recommended). (March 10, 17, 24, and 31, 8 a.m. to noon)

All events are free and open to the public. Remember to bring cash to support local vendors and purchase your favorite maple treats!
