Hit-and-Run Leaves Bicyclist in Critical Condition in Athens County

Athens, OH, June 16, 2024 – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist in critical condition. The incident occurred on Radford Road near Edria Lane in Athens County.

A bicyclist, riding a Cannondale bicycle southbound on Radford Road, was struck from behind by a southbound vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the collision. The crash is believed to have taken place between 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, and the early morning hours of Sunday, June 16.

The unidentified bicyclist was airlifted to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, with life-threatening injuries.

Troopers believe the suspect vehicle is a 2023 or 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Overland Edition, which likely has damage to its front and right front fender. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the crash or the suspect vehicle to contact the Athens Post at (740) 593-6611.
