Four inducted into CHS Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2018

Circleville City Schools – On Saturday, January 20th, Circleville High School enshrined four new members into the Athletics Hall of Fame in between junior varsity and varsity home basketball contests versus Hamilton Township.

The 2018 Hall of Fame class was made up of Beth Adkins Paynter, Ryan Ankrom (Class of 1996), Leah (Allen) Congrove (Class of 2006), and Gary Mogan (Class of 1973).

Beth Adkins Paynter, who recently retired from Circleville City Schools in 2015, spent themajority of her Circleville career working as the high school athletics secretary – a position she began in 1993. Paynter’s tenure as a member of the Red and Black saw her work alongside an array of coaches, athletic directors, and volunteers in meeting the daily needs of the student-athletes the department served over her 21 years of work.

Ryan Ankrom was a three sport athlete at Circleville City while attending the school from 1992-1996 – most notably in football and baseball. Ankrom was a co-captain for thegridiron Tigers where he played wide-receiver and kicker and patrolled the middle infield as a shortstop on the baseball team. In all, Ankrom earned nine varsity letters, earned all-Mid State League once and all-District twice in baseball, and all-Mid-State League Buckeye Division and received all-Central District honors in football.

Leah (Allen) Congrove left her mark on CHS as a cross country and track standout from 2002-2006 – competing in the state meet in seven of her eight seasons in the two sports. As a runner, Congrove took home all-MSL honors three times, all-District four times, andin 2005 was named cross country team MVP.

The final member of the 2018 Hall of Fame class, Gary Mogan, excelled as a three sport athlete (football, wrestling, baseball) for the Tigers in the early 1970’s. On football Friday Nights Mogan was an all-South Central Ohio League linebacker and earned second team all-Central District during his high school career. On the mat, Mogan was a captain of the wrestling team was a 2-time, South Central Ohio League champion anddistrict champion.
