LOGAN, Ohio — Issac Pence, a 21-year-old resident of Carroll, was sentenced today to 18 years to life in prison for the murder of Charles Starner, 22, during a party in Sugar Grove on April 23, 2023. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced the sentence following Pence’s conviction on August 26 for one count of murder, two counts of felonious assault, and one count of tampering with evidence.
A Hocking County jury determined that Pence fatally stabbed Starner at a rental cabin. The case was investigated by the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, along with support from the Fairfield County Prosecutor’s Office.
The prosecution was handled by attorneys from AG Yost’s Special Prosecution Section.
