CHILLICOTHE – In a significant stride towards enhancing roadway safety, Mayor Luke Feeney proudly announced that the City of Chillicothe has been awarded funding from the Safe Streets for All grant program by the United States Department of Transportation.

Amidst the observance of National Bike Month, Chillicothe joins a select group of communities across the nation to receive support aimed at bolstering protections for bicyclists and pedestrians while concurrently striving to curtail roadway fatalities and severe injuries.

The City’s application for the 2024 Safe Streets for All planning and demonstration grant, submitted earlier this April, has met with success, with Chillicothe emerging as one of only eight Ohio communities chosen for the grant.

The grant, designated for planning and demonstration purposes, injects $120,000 of federal funding into Chillicothe’s efforts to craft a comprehensive safety action plan. This plan will meticulously identify key roadway safety concerns within the community and propose a roadmap for implementing targeted projects and strategies to mitigate these issues effectively.

Mayor Feeney expressed his elation at the City’s achievement, attributing it to the diligent efforts of the municipal team. “I am incredibly proud of the team here at the City,” remarked Feeney. “The hard work that has gone into this application and other recent wins is making the City a better place on a daily basis. With this grant, we will be able to more effectively plan to make our roadways safer and move toward reaching the status of Bicycle Friendly City – a goal identified by the community in the Choose Chillicothe comprehensive plan.”
