CIRCLEVILLE – A ordinance that would add around 100,000 dollars to help fix roads in the city by adding a 5 dollar license fee as an annual levy per car has failed in an almost split vote in last night’s election.
The ordinance came out of the Judicial meeting in February of 2021 and was tabled until early May so a public hearing was held to discuss the increase.
Only three citizens showed up with questions about the tax, two were more seeking answers according to some council and one was against it.
Councilman Jeff Hallinan of 1st Ward spoke out against the increase saying, “I don’t think we should add another tax on the people. I wasn’t put in this spot to raise taxes, even if it was a buck. I think we need to do more to lower taxes for the citizens of Circleville to bring more people. I think that would bring more revenue to the city than raising taxes.”
Circleville Council voted down the ordinance during its first reading 4 – 3.
