CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The City of Chillicothe has officially proclaimed June 16, 2026, as Federal EHR Day, recognizing the successful launch of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ new Federal Electronic Health Record system at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center.

The proclamation was issued in partnership with Mayor Luke Feeney and highlights the collaboration between local leaders, healthcare partners, and the VA in implementing a modernized digital health system designed to improve care for veterans.

The Federal EHR system, which went live on June 6, is part of a nationwide effort by the Department of Veterans Affairs to update and standardize medical records technology across its healthcare network. The system is designed to align with the Department of Defense’s health records platform, allowing for improved continuity of care as service members transition into VA healthcare.

Officials say the upgraded system enhances patient safety, improves access to medical history, and ensures that veterans’ health records follow them seamlessly throughout their care.

“This proclamation reflects our community’s shared pride in supporting the men and women who have served our nation,” said Ken Mortimer, Executive Medical Center Director at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center. “Today marks not just a technological milestone, but a commitment to honoring our veterans with the coordinated, high-quality care they deserve.”

The June 6 launch included coordinated training, system onboarding, and technical support across multiple VA facilities, involving clinicians, administrators, and information technology staff. VA officials described the rollout as the result of extensive planning and collaboration aimed at ensuring a smooth transition to the new system.

City and VA leaders said the designation of Federal EHR Day underscores Chillicothe’s role in supporting advancements in veterans’ healthcare and strengthens the ongoing partnership between the VA and the local community it serves.
