Chillicothe Police Blotter: Suspicious death investigation, hit-skip pedestrian stop, and break-in top Sunday police response

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department responded to 19 calls for service on Sunday, June 28, 2026, launched several criminal investigations, and intervened in an out-of-county hit-and-run investigation.

Suspicious Death Investigation

Late Sunday evening, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Lake Drive regarding a report of an unresponsive person. Units arrived on the scene at approximately 9:37 p.m. and discovered a deceased male.

The incident has been flagged as a suspicious death. Investigators remain on the scene, and the department notes that a full investigation is actively underway.

Hit-and-Run Suspect Intercepted

Early Sunday morning, an alert Chillicothe officer intercepted a vehicle suspected in a major out-of-county crash. At approximately 3:15 a.m., police conducted an investigative stop on a black 2014 Jeep Wrangler on S. Paint Street.

The vehicle and its operator were identified as suspects in a hit-and-run accident that had just occurred in Ross County, where a pedestrian was struck. The case has been documented, and data is being shared with county investigators.

Separately, a local hit-skip crash was reported at 6:20 p.m. in the 1069 block of Diehl Street. Officers currently have a suspect in mind and are reviewing area surveillance footage to finalize the investigation.

Property Crimes, Burglary, and Trespass

  • Seventh Street Burglary: Officers responded to a home in the 369 block of E. Seventh Street at 7:59 a.m. regarding a break-in. A report was filed for vandalism and breaking and entering, and the investigation continues.
  • River Trace Lane Incidents: The Walmart property at 85 River Trace Lane drew multiple police responses. At 1:42 p.m., officers filed a theft report. Later, at 5:11 p.m., units returned to the same address for another theft call, which resulted in charges of criminal trespass and a probation violation.
  • Bridge Street Theft & Trespass: At 6:57 p.m., police were called to 10 N. Bridge Street to handle a combined criminal trespass and suspected theft complaint.
  • Paint Street Mischief: Officers took a report for criminal mischief in the 500 block of S. Paint Street at 11:52 a.m. after receiving complaints of property tampering.

Domestic Disputes and Safety Runs

  • Runaway Juvenile: At 4:33 a.m., police responded to a residence in the 209 block of Scioto Avenue to take a report for a runaway juvenile and missing person case.
  • Domestic Complaints: Officers resolved a domestic dispute in the 300 block of Plyleys Lane at 9:30 a.m. without further incident. Later that night, at 9:25 p.m., a second domestic dispute was reported in the 684 block of Vine Street, which remains under active investigation.
  • Welfare Check: Units responded to the 438 block of E. Water Street at 3:22 p.m. to conduct a standard welfare check.

Traffic Accidents

  • Injury Crash: A two-vehicle accident with reported injuries occurred at 4:12 p.m. on Eastern Avenue near S. McArthur Street. An official crash report was completed.
  • Intersection Collision: At 4:27 p.m., officers handled a non-injury accident at the intersection of Piatt Avenue and Allen Avenue caused by a stop sign violation.

False Alarm

At 11:16 a.m., police were dispatched to the Dollar General in the 1050 block of E. Main Street for a report of stolen car keys. The incident was quickly resolved and marked unfounded after the keys were located inside the store. However, a motorist at the same address was cited a two hours later, at 1:27 p.m., for driving under a Financial Responsibility Act (FRA) suspension.
