
PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — Independence Day celebrations are returning to Pickaway County in a big way this week, as both Ashville and Williamsport prepare to host massive, community-wide events culminating in spectacular holiday fireworks on Saturday, July 4.
This year’s celebrations hold even greater significance as communities gear up for the national “America 250” milestone, marking the semi-quincentennial of the United States.
Ashville Fourth of July Festival Kicks Off Tuesday
For residents looking to start the holiday early, the annual Ashville 4th of July Festival officially begins tomorrow, Tuesday, June 30, and runs through Saturday, July 4.
The multi-day festival is a regional staple, transforming the village with family-friendly carnival rides, classic fair food, and community events throughout the week. The celebration will conclude on Saturday night with a grand grand finale fireworks display scheduled for 10:00 p.m.
Williamsport’s ‘Backwoods Boom’ Primed for ‘America 250’ Blowout
On the western side of the county, Williamsport will play host to The Backwoods Boom, widely recognized as one of the largest and most highly anticipated single-day fireworks displays in Central Ohio.
Organizers have partnered with the statewide America 250 initiative to put together a packed itinerary of live music, historical tributes, and military honors on Saturday, July 4.
To accommodate the massive crowds, the event will feature two distinct viewing areas: Ballard Park and the nearby Crown Hill Golf Club. Food trucks and local vendors will be stationed throughout both locations.
The official schedule for the Backwoods Boom on July 4th includes:
- 5:00 p.m. — Opening Ceremony: Featuring a traditional flag raising, a performance by the Circleville Barbershop Chorus, and a 21-gun salute presented by the Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution. The ceremony will also feature a flyover by the Historical Aircraft Squadron and the official unveiling of a new Revolutionary Soldier’s War Memorial.
- 6:00 p.m. — Live Music: A performance by local favorites Direct Energy.
- 7:30 p.m. — Intermission
- 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. — Headlining Music: The Travis Brown Band takes the stage.
- 9:30 p.m. — Gun Raffle Drawing
- 9:55 p.m. — The National Anthem: A special rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner performed on electric guitar by Carter Sirlouis.
- 10:00 p.m. — The Backwoods Boom Fireworks Show: The signature high-energy pyrotechnics display begins.
Both the Ashville and Williamsport events are made possible through public-private partnerships and local business sponsorships, ensuring that county residents have free access to top-tier holiday entertainment.
