COLUMBUS, Ohio – Calling all bird enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers! The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is proud to announce the release of the 2024 Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp. This year’s stamp features a stunning photograph of a pair of cedar waxwings, captured by Roni Leatherman of Rittman.

For just $15, you can not only own this beautiful commemorative stamp, but also contribute directly to the conservation of Ohio’s diverse wildlife. Each stamp purchase includes a collectible stamp, a window decal, and a commemorative card. Additionally, stamp holders can enjoy a discount on stays at select Ohio state park lodges.

The best part? Every dollar counts! All proceeds from the Wildlife Legacy Stamp benefit wildlife conservation efforts in the state. Most of the funds are directed towards the Wildlife Diversity Fund, which prioritizes species in greatest need. This year, there’s an exciting new addition: $1 from each stamp sale will be dedicated to the Southern Wings program.

Southern Wings is a collaborative effort led by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA) that focuses on protecting the vital habitats of Neotropical migratory birds that call Ohio home during winter months. This program extends beyond state borders, contributing to conservation projects across Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.

The remaining Wildlife Legacy Stamp proceeds go towards the state’s Wildlife Diversity Fund. This critical fund supports a variety of initiatives, including habitat restoration, research projects on wildlife populations, educational materials development, and crucial efforts to conserve endangered and threatened species. From the majestic cedar waxwing to the playful river otter, the fund ensures a healthy future for Ohio’s incredible wildlife by providing the habitat, resources, and protection they need to thrive.

Get ready to spread your wings! Ohio residents can look forward to participating in the 16th annual Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp Photo Contest this summer. The winning entry will be featured on the 2025 stamp, with the theme focusing on the vital role of pollinators in our ecosystem. So grab your camera, head outdoors, and capture the beauty of Ohio’s wildlife!
