ASHVILLE, Ohio — An Ashville man convicted of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old child has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in Pickaway County Common Pleas Court.

Brian McBride, 36, was originally arrested in April after a child disclosed the abuse to a grandparent, who immediately contacted law enforcement. The report prompted an investigation that included a forensic interview and medical examination of the child.

Following the investigation, McBride was charged with rape, sexual battery, and two counts of gross sexual imposition.

The case proceeded through the Pickaway County court system, where McBride was convicted of the charges. During sentencing, the court imposed life in prison without the possibility of parole, the most severe sentence available under Ohio law.

The investigation began after the child’s disclosure led authorities to gather evidence supporting the charges. Due to the victim’s age, investigators and prosecutors have released few additional details about the case.

The sentence brings the criminal proceedings to a close, with the court finding the offenses warranted a lifetime prison sentence.
