HARRISON TWP., OH — A two-vehicle collision in northern Pickaway County sent a Lancaster woman to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after her SUV struck a stopped commercial construction truck at high speed in a work zone.
According to a crash report from the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 3:52 p.m. on State Route 762 East near Bulen-Pierce Road in Harrison Township.
Investigators state that Cassandra Sue Adair, 41, of Lancaster, was driving a 2019 Dodge Durango westbound on State Route 762 at a high rate of speed when she failed to recognize stopped traffic ahead at a temporary work zone traffic signal.
As she approached the stopped line of vehicles, Adair noticed the brake lights of a 2024 Kenworth commercial truck ahead operated by Jimmy Lane Monroe, 56, of Logan. Adair attempted an evasive maneuver by steering to the left, but her vehicle struck the left rear tires of the heavy construction truck.
The force and speed of the impact lifted the rear of the Kenworth off the ground and pushed the heavy vehicle forward approximately eight feet before coming to a stop. Monroe reported seeing the SUV approaching at high speed in his mirrors and had applied his brakes prior to impact.
Adair sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported by Harrison Township EMS (M801) to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment. Monroe reported no apparent injuries at the scene.
Deputies cited Adair with Failure to Maintain Assured Clear Distance Ahead (ACDA). Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene, which remained closed to traffic for roughly 65 minutes during the investigation and cleanup.
