WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Dave Taylor (R-Ohio) announced that legislation aimed at increasing American-made firearm production has been included in the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which passed the U.S. House of Representatives on July 22.
Taylor’s Make American Guns Again (MAGA) Act was included in the defense package, which passed by a vote of 216-212. The legislation is designed to reduce reliance on foreign sources for military small arms and light weapons by encouraging the use of American-owned and operated manufacturers.
“America’s military was designed to be the world’s most lethal fighting force, and I’m proud to support this legislation that will ensure our warfighters are equipped to win,” Taylor said. “My MAGA Act will shield our weapons supply chain from dependence on foreign countries, and I’m proud to see it included in the FY27 NDAA.”
Taylor said the measure will help ensure military personnel have confidence in the equipment they use while supporting domestic manufacturing and the American defense industry.
The FY2027 NDAA focuses on strengthening the nation’s defense industrial base by expanding U.S. production capacity, encouraging private-sector investment, and supporting jobs in skilled manufacturing. The legislation also includes provisions related to nuclear deterrence, missile defense, and resources aimed at countering foreign adversaries.
The defense bill also includes quality-of-life improvements for military families, including pay increases of 5% to 7% for servicemembers, along with improvements to housing, education, and childcare programs.
Taylor first introduced the MAGA Act on July 17, 2025. The legislation requires the Secretary of War to provide a report to congressional defense committees by March 15, 2027, identifying the prevalence of government-issued small arms and light weapons used by the U.S. military that were either manufactured outside the country or produced domestically by foreign-owned subsidiaries.
The legislation also directs the Secretary of War to provide recommendations on increasing procurement from companies that are American-owned, operated, and located within the United States.
Taylor represents Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District, which includes Clermont, Clinton, Pike, Adams, Brown, Highland, Ross, Scioto, Pickaway, Hocking, Vinton, Jackson, Lawrence, Gallia, and Meigs counties, along with part of Fayette County.
He serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Agriculture Committee. Before being elected to Congress, Taylor worked as an assistant prosecutor in Clermont County and later led his family’s concrete business as president.
