AMANDA, Ohio — An Amanda-Clearcreek Local Schools student has earned county-wide recognition after winning Fairfield County’s America 250 writing contest during the Lancaster Festival’s America 250 celebration.
Seventh-grader Olivia Warren was announced as the contest winner on July 22 during the celebration at Zane Square in downtown Lancaster.
The contest, titled “America is…”, invited Fairfield County students in grades 4-12 to submit an essay, poem, or other creative writing piece reflecting on the United States in honor of the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday.
As the overall winner, Warren received a cash prize, a feature on a local billboard, a restaurant gift voucher, and publication of her winning poem in the Fairfield County Heritage Quarterly Magazine. The contest was coordinated by Keller Williams Greater Columbus Realty in Lancaster.
“We’re proud to celebrate alongside Olivia and commend her for the creativity displayed in her submission,” Amanda-Clearcreek Superintendent Dr. Timothy Edwards said. “This contest was a valuable opportunity to actively participate in our nation’s milestone and recognize the work of young learners in the process.”
The America 250 celebration at the Lancaster Festival also included a performance by the Lancaster High School ensemble, patriotic-themed giveaways, and a community picnic.
The America 250 initiative is part of nationwide celebrations leading up to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, encouraging communities and students to reflect on the nation’s history and future.
